Modest Dress

In our society today, young ladies are bombarded in magazines, TV shows, and movies by immodestly dressed young ladies. Many years ago, I began to guard my home and not let anything bad come into it, via TV, magazines, and movies. Do not let this influence your daughters. As parents we need to teach our daughters how to dress in a modest way and not like the world. As Christians we are not to be like the world but different.

We have been blessed by two ladies in our church that have taken the time to show my daughter how to sew. She now has a great love for sewing her own clothes. She now sees something at a clothing store and finds a way to sew it for less money.

Years ago, my husband and I decided to dress my daughter in a way that pleased the Lord. When she was learning to walk and became more active, we put shorts/leggings under her dresses. If we were invited to a tea party or special event, I always put her in a dress/skirt with matching shoes and purse.

Recently, we had the opportunity to wear a dress/skirt for 7 days. Many times we were asked why we were wearing dresses. We were definitely treated differently when we were out and about. I personally felt dressed up and less frumpy. Men open doors for you. You feel like a lady, and sit and walk like a lady when in a dress.

When you wear a pair of pants, the cut is too low and they are not cut for a woman with a curvy figure. The eye will then go to the wrong place. Young ladies and women have a spare tire effect when wearing jeans. A dress will drape over the stomach and hip area. I find a dress to be very comfortable around the stomach and hip area.

I used to wear jeans to clean house in, but recently put on a long denim skirt and worked around the house comfortably. No buttons or waistband to restrict me, much more comfortable!

I would encourage you to wear a dress/skirt for a week. It will change the way you feel about wearing jeans and t-shirts vs dresses/skirts.

Two scriptures to study are Deuteronomy 22:5 and 1 Timothy 2:9.

Here is a website that will help you on the topic of modesty and where to find modest clothing, http://www.preparingdaughters.com/. Also, two blogs where you will find more information about modest dress at http://homeliving.blogspot.com/ and http://thepleasanttimes.blogspot.com/.

In His Love,
Mom

Day 7 in A Modest Dress/Skirt

Day 7
Today, we went to Sunday school and church services. I chose a pink floral sundress and a white t-shirt. My hair was pulled back into ponytails. My mom wore a black floral print skirt with a black sweater.

Day 6 in A Modest Dress/Skirt

Day 6
I chose a brown floral print skirt with a pink t-shirt. My hair was pulled back with a floral hair clip. Mom chose a green floral print dress with a mandarin collar. Her hair was down.
Today, I went shopping at the mall with my aunt, uncle and cousins. The girls at the mall who were dressed immodestly, starred at me as I walked by in my skirt and t-shirt.

Day 5 in A Modest Dress/Skirt

Day 5
Today I spent my day in the home school room and worked on my chore list. Sorry, the picture is not clear. I wore a pink floral halter sundress, with a lace camisole and caplet. My hair was pulled back in a low ponytail. Mom wore a red and black floral dress with her hair down.

Day 4 In a Modest Dress/Skirt

Day 4
Today, mom and I went to Ladies Bible Study together. Mom wore a long khaki skirt with a red sweater and I wore a spring print dress with a white t-shirt and white caplet.

Day 3 in a Modest Dress/Skirt

Day 3
I wore a green sundress with a green t-shirt, my hair was pulled back in a high pony tail. My mother wore a denim skirt and pink/white t-shirt. Her hair was curled in the front.
Today, my dad and I went grocery shopping together. I will work on my home school lessons after we get back home. My mother took her friend to an eye doctor appointment and then out to lunch.

Day 2 in A Dress/Skirt

Day 2
Hannah wore a handmade spring print dress with a white t-shirt and wore her hair down. Mom wore a green/black floral print dress with her hair pulled back.
Today we very busy in the home school room. I am trying to get my schoolwork done by the June 11Th. Mom and her sister cleaned a house together in Shed.
Some comments that have come up in conversation, while we were out and about. "Why are you wearing a dress to clean my house?" "Why are you wearing that outfit outside?" "I would never be caught dead in a dress or skirt, even if they paid me a million dollars!" Some comments have been rather rude and I will not mention them in polite society.

7 Days in a Modest Dress/Skirt

Day 1

Please check out a website called Feelin' Feminine. The web address is http://feelinfeminine.com/. They are challenging mothers, grandmothers, young ladies, daughters, sisters, etc., to dress in a feminine manner for 7 days.
My mom and I have decided to take the challenge and wear a femininely modest dress or skirt for the next 7 days.
Today, we are busy homeschooling and cleaning our house, so we both chose outfits that are comfortable and easy to move around the house in. Mom chose a long denim skirt and a pink, long sleeve sweater. I chose a pink t-shirt and a long, pink floral skirt. Mom pulled her hair back into a ponytail and I chose pigtails!
