Modest Dress

In our society today, young ladies are bombarded in magazines, TV shows, and movies by immodestly dressed young ladies. Many years ago, I began to guard my home and not let anything bad come into it, via TV, magazines, and movies. Do not let this influence your daughters. As parents we need to teach our daughters how to dress in a modest way and not like the world. As Christians we are not to be like the world but different.

We have been blessed by two ladies in our church that have taken the time to show my daughter how to sew. She now has a great love for sewing her own clothes. She now sees something at a clothing store and finds a way to sew it for less money.

Years ago, my husband and I decided to dress my daughter in a way that pleased the Lord. When she was learning to walk and became more active, we put shorts/leggings under her dresses. If we were invited to a tea party or special event, I always put her in a dress/skirt with matching shoes and purse.

Recently, we had the opportunity to wear a dress/skirt for 7 days. Many times we were asked why we were wearing dresses. We were definitely treated differently when we were out and about. I personally felt dressed up and less frumpy. Men open doors for you. You feel like a lady, and sit and walk like a lady when in a dress.

When you wear a pair of pants, the cut is too low and they are not cut for a woman with a curvy figure. The eye will then go to the wrong place. Young ladies and women have a spare tire effect when wearing jeans. A dress will drape over the stomach and hip area. I find a dress to be very comfortable around the stomach and hip area.

I used to wear jeans to clean house in, but recently put on a long denim skirt and worked around the house comfortably. No buttons or waistband to restrict me, much more comfortable!

I would encourage you to wear a dress/skirt for a week. It will change the way you feel about wearing jeans and t-shirts vs dresses/skirts.

Two scriptures to study are Deuteronomy 22:5 and 1 Timothy 2:9.

Here is a website that will help you on the topic of modesty and where to find modest clothing, http://www.preparingdaughters.com/. Also, two blogs where you will find more information about modest dress at http://homeliving.blogspot.com/ and http://thepleasanttimes.blogspot.com/.

In His Love,
Mom
